Standard Kerbside Delivery by Tail Lift

Paving Slabs UK Standard Delivery – Tail-Lift Kerbside Delivery by Palletways

Most online stores in the paving stone industry do not provide delivery by HIAB (lorry-mounted crane). This type of delivery is normally available only from local builders' merchants or a small number of large building material suppliers, and usually requires advance booking together with an additional fee.

At Paving Slabs UK, stone pallets are delivered using tail-lift kerbside transport, which is the most widely used method for pallet deliveries across the UK. With a tail-lift vehicle, the driver safely lowers the pallet to ground level and then moves it using a manual pallet truck. This method is widely used within the paving and building materials industry because it is efficient and cost-effective.

Once the pallets have been unloaded at the kerbside, the delivery is considered complete. Customers may request the driver to move the pallet slightly further if ground conditions allow, but this always depends on the site conditions and remains at the driver’s discretion.

Kerbside Delivery & Driver Discretion

Manual pallet trucks require a firm and level surface. Gravel, loose stones, grass, steep slopes or uneven paving can prevent the pallet truck from operating safely. If ground conditions are unsuitable, the driver will unload the pallet only at a location they consider safe and practical.

Vehicle Access & Road Conditions

Most pallet deliveries in the UK are carried out using approximately 18-tonne delivery vehicles. If your road is narrow or has restricted access, a smaller 12-tonne vehicle may be required. Arranging a smaller vehicle may involve additional delivery charges and normally requires advance notice.

Customers should inform us in advance if the delivery address has narrow roads, restricted vehicle access or limited turning space. If these conditions are not disclosed beforehand and delivery cannot be completed, additional delivery or re-delivery costs may become the customer’s responsibility.

Parking & Unloading Conditions

For safe unloading, the delivery vehicle must be able to stop on reasonably level ground with sufficient space for the tail-lift to operate. Roads with steep slopes, double yellow lines, parking restrictions or limited stopping space may prevent the driver from completing the delivery safely. In such cases, the driver may unload at the nearest practical location.

About the Delivery Network

UK pallet delivery networks typically operate through around 200 local depots, each with multiple drivers covering different delivery routes. Once pallets have been dispatched from our warehouse, the delivery process is handled by the pallet network and is therefore outside our direct control. Nevertheless, we work with well-established logistics partners to maintain reliable nationwide delivery.

Tail Lift Capacity

Tail-lift equipment also has operational limits. Pallets weighing approximately 950–980 kg may approach the lifting capacity of some standard tail-lift systems. For returns or depot collections, customers should confirm the pallet weight and site access conditions in advance to ensure appropriate equipment is available.
