# Stone Cobbles and Setts Tumbled

Natural stone cobbles and setts with a tumbled finish are designed to remove the sharp edges of freshly cut stone and create a more traditional, aged appearance. Through the tumbling process, the corners are softened and the overall look becomes less rigid, giving the paving a more natural and established character.

There are generally two main production approaches. One method involves cutting the stone into regular sizes first and then tumbling the units to soften the edges. The other involves hand-cropping the stone before tumbling, which produces a more irregular and traditional finish. Both methods aim to take away the sharpness of new stone and create a more time-worn effect.

**Granite tumbled setts** are typically produced by cutting the granite into standard sett sizes and then tumbling the pieces. This process softens the edges while maintaining the structural strength and consistency of granite, resulting in a durable paving option with a slightly aged appearance.

**Sandstone cobbles tumbled** are more commonly hand-cropped first and then tumbled. This combination creates softer edges and more variation in shape, giving the stone a warmer, more relaxed and traditional feel that suits classic garden and driveway settings.

**Limestone cobbles tumbled** follow a similar approach, often being hand-shaped before tumbling. The result is a smoother and more refined appearance, with gently rounded edges and a consistent tone, offering a softer and more mellow finish compared to newly cut stone.

Across all three types, the tumbling process removes hard edges and introduces a more natural, softened look. Whether using granite, sandstone or limestone, tumbled cobbles and setts provide a balance between structure and character, making them a popular choice for projects where a traditional and less uniform finish is preferred.
